This shrub has short stems with many spreading branches that form a dense bushy habit. It has leathery dark green linear leaves and the green to cream-pinkish tube-shaped flowers appear terminally in a conical cluster from autumn to mid-spring.

Grevillea commutatais naturally found in south-west Western Australia growing on the Geraldton sandplains and adjoining hillsides on the coast and inland to Yuna amongst small trees or shrubland and in heathlands.
It prefers an open sunny position and grows in very well-drained poor to moderately fertile yellow to red sand or loamy sand over rock that is acidic tending alkaline. It is frost and drought tolerant and regenerate from seed after fire.
The Midland Greenhood is grown for its dense bushy habit and its flowers. It is planted in a small or native garden borders for screening and is used in arid gardens as a specimen. In exposed positions it is almost prostrate and is used as a spill-over above retaining walls or is planted on embankments. It is suitable coastal and inland regions and establishes in 3-4 years.
