This shrub to small tree has upright stems with pendulous branches that form an open rounded habit. It has needle-like yellowish green linear leaves and the bright yellow flowers appear in a rounded spike from autumn to late winter.

Acacia merlnthophorais a naturally found in south-west Western Australia growing in tall shrubland, inland on sandplains, stony hillsides and low-lying areas amongst granite outcrops.

It prefers an open to exposed sunny position and grows in poor to moderately fertile white-grey or yellow sandy stony soils that are tending acidic. It is very drought tolerant but frost tender.

The Zigzag Wattle is grown for its pendulous habit and its flowers. It is planted in small or arid gardens along borders as a specimen or use on rocky embankments. It has also grown in large planter boxes or used on roof gardens tolerating neglect once established. It is suitable for inland regions and establishes in 3-4 years and is moderately long-lived. It is not commonly cultivated outside's native region and may be difficult to obtain requiring a specialist nursery. ID 3805
