This tree to stunted shrub has a greyish trunk with erect to spreading branches that form a dense crown. It has a dark green scale-like leaves along needle-like branchlets and the male and female cones appeared from late spring to summer.

Callitris preissiiis naturally found in Australia from Western Australia to South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. There are 3-subspecies and are found growing on sandstone hillsides or along river plains and near granite outcrops on flat or undulating valleys.
It prefers an open to exposed sunny position and grows in well-drained, poor to moderately fertile sandy to clay loam that is tending acidic but will tolerate alkaline soils with a pH up to 7.5. It is drought, salt spray and moderately frost tolerant but dislikes waterlogged soil and is damaged by fire, regenerating from seed.
Rottnest Island Pine Is grown for its attractive foliage and upright growth habit. It is planted along garden borders for screening or used on farms as a windbreak and as a shelter belt for stock. It has also grown in urban gardens as a specimen or use for street plantings.
