Banksia caleyiis naturally found in south-west Western Australia along the southern coast from south Stirling to the West River and inland to Pingrup growing in mallee shrubland on the plains from sea level to an altitude of 265 m (869 ft). It prefers an open to exposed sunny position and grows in poor very well drained white gravelly-sand to sandy clay with a pH range of 6 to 7.5. It is drought and light frost tolerant and prefers a Mediterranean climate.
Cayley's Banksia is grown for its flowers and its bushy habit. It is planted in parks and gardens as a specimen for attracting birds and mammals or used along borders as a low screen. It is also planted as a windbreak in a coastal setting and can be grown in large tubs or planter boxes. It is suitable to inland and coastal regions and establishes in 3-5 years and is long lived. This rather slow-growing Banksia is widely cultivated in Australia and overseas but dislikes a humid summer. ID 3775
