This large coniferous tree has a solitary trunk with scaly grey-brown bark and horizontally spreading branches that form a rounded crown. It has a thick leathery dark green leaves and produces globular female cones during the spring.

Agathis mooreiis naturally found in New Caledonia and the surrounding islands in rainforest up to an altitude of 1,000 m (3,280 ft) and is regarded as vulnerable in its natural habitat.

It prefers a sunny to semi-shaded protected position and grows in deep well drained organic rich moist sandy to light clay loam. It is drought, and frost tender but salt laden wind tolerant and care should be taken as the roots can cause a structural damage.

The Noumea Kauri is grown for its rounded crown and foliage. It is planted in parks and botanical collections as a specimen or used in large gardens along boundaries. It is also planted in rainforest settings and is ideal for along water courses in mountainous settings. It is suitable coastal and low mountain regions and establishes in 4-6 years and is long lived. This large tree is not commonly cultivated and may be difficult to obtain requiring a specialist nursery. ID 3772
