It prefers an open sunny position and grows in very well-drained white sandy soils that are moderately fertile and periodically wet. It is drought and salt laden wind tolerant but frost tender.

Scribbly Gum is grown for its attractive foliage, bark and flowers. It is planted in coastal parks and gardens as a specimen tree for shady and to attract native birds. It is also used for dune stabilisation and re-forestation programmes and is suitable for coastal and inland regions. It establishes in 3-5 years and is long lived but is not suitable for urban gardens as it is too large and has strong roots. This tree is used in group plantings for screening or as a windbreak and requires little care. ID 3762
