This large coniferous tree has a scaly greyish trunk with spreading branches that form a conical habit. It has glossy dark green upturned needle-like leaves and the brownish female cones appear during spring.

Abies numidicais naturally found in Algeria growing in restricted regions of the Barbor and Tababor Mountains at an altitude of 1800 m to 2004 m (6574 ft) with an annual precipitation of over 2000 mm (6 ft) mainly as snow and is regarded as a threatened species.
It prefers a semi-shaded to full sun position and grows in well-trained organic rich drier soils that are tending acidic with a pH 6-7 and is frost and drought tolerant.
The Algerian Fur is grown for its foliage and drought resistance. It is planted in parks and large gardens as a specimen or used in mountainous woodlands. It is suitable for high mountain regions and establishes in 5-7 years and has long lived. This tree is not commonly cultivated and may be difficult to obtain requiring a specialised nursery. ID 3737
