This rhizomatous perennial succulent as spreading stems and forms a clump. It has curved thick bright green succulent strap-like leaves and the bright yellow daisy-like flowers appear just above the foliage from summer to late winter.

Glottiphyllum latumiis naturally found in South Africa growing in the Cape Province and Karoo Desert on rocky outcrops along the coast and in the lower mountains.

It prefers an open to expose sunny position and grows in very well-drained poor of moderately fertile sandy-stony soil that incorporates slate and quartz and is pH adaptable. It is drought and wind tolerant but frost tender.

Tongueleaf is grown for its spreading habit, drought tolerance and its yellow flowers. It is planted in small or arid gardens along front borders or mass planted as a ground cover. It has also grown in sunny rockeries or patio pots and planter boxes and can be used in roof gardens requiring little care. It is suitable from coastal and inland regions and establishes in 2-3 years and is long lived. In cold regions it is grown as a potted specimen in a glasshouse or conservatory and requires no watering during winter (dormant period). ID 3732
