This stoloniferous perennial has long arching runners that form a small clump. It has bright green toothed oval leaflets and the yellow centred white wheel-shaped flowers appear in a cluster above the foliage during spring and are followed by edible fruit.

It prefers an open sunny position but will tolerate some shade where it produced fewer fruit and grows in well-drained moist fertile soils that are neutral tending alkaline with a pH range of 5.8 to 7.2. It is frost tolerant but drought tender and will reshoot after low intensity fire.
