This deciduous shrub has greyish stems with slender arching branches that form a loose irregular rounded habit. It has mid-green elliptical leaves and the white saucer-shaped flowers appeared profusely in a raceme during spring.

Exochorda racemosais a naturally found in eastern China from Henan to Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Zhejiang growing on shady slopes on the coast and in the lower mountains, from an altitude of 200 m (656 ft) to 500 m (1,640 ft).
It prefers a semi-shaded to sunny open position and it grows in well-drained organic rich moist sandy clay loam that is tending acidic but is ph adaptable. It is frost and mildly drought tolerant but dislikes humid conditions.
The Common Pearlbush is grown for its bushy habit and white flowers. It is planted along garden borders as a low screen for use in the understory in a woodland setting. It is suitable for coastal and inland regions and establishes in 3-5 years and is moderately long lived.
