This suckering perennial to sub-shrub has upright branch stems that are woody at the base and form a clump. It has blue-green lobed leaves and the scented, large white poppy-like flower appear singularly over the plant throughout summer.

It grows at an open sunny position on very well drain stony-sandy soils but will tolerate clay with a pH 5-8 and is a frost and drought tolerant.
