This perennial has a slender green upright leafy stems with basal leaves and forms a clump. It has blue green broad lance-shaped toothed leaves and sprays of rose-purple tube-shaped flowers, appear above the foliage throughout spring.

Penstemon pseudospectabilisis naturally found in North America from California to Arizona and extending to New Mexico growing in the desert mountains and on canyon floors amoungst Juniper woodlands or creosote-bush scrub from an altitude of 100-1,400 m (4,500 ft).

It prefers an open sunny wind protected position and grows in very well drained sandy rocky soils that are moderately fertile with a pH 6-8 in a wind protected position and is frost and drought tolerant.

The Desert Beardtongue is grown for its flowers and clumping habit. It is planted along perennial borders in parks or gardens and is used in patio pots or planter boxes. It is suitable for coastal and inland regions tolerating arid conditions and establishes in 1-2 years but may be short lived.
