This variable shrub has spreading to upright branches that forms a compact rounded habit. It has pale green lance-shaped toothed leaves and the large pale yellowish funnel-shaped flowers that appear in a cluster from spring to summer.

Mimulus longiflorusis naturally found in North America growing in southern California in chaparral, coastal sage scrub and Yellow Pine forests from sea level in rocky outcrops to an altitude of 250m (750 ft).

It prefers an open sunny position but will tolerates some shade and it grows in moderately fertile well-drained sandy to decomposed granite-based soils, but dislikes clay. It is drought and salt spray tolerant but frost tender.

The Southern Bush Monkey flower is grown for its flowers and spreading habit. It Is planted in small gardens along borders or in rockeries as a spill-over and used on roof gardens or planter boxes. It is suitable for coastal regions establishing in 2-3 years and is moderately long-lived. It is also planted in gardens to attract humming birds or used in coastal revegetation programs. ID 3658
