This deciduous perennial has a slender tap root and caudex with dark green thin succulent linear leaves. From late spring to summer it produces pink-flushed white fan-shaped flowers in a cluster above the foliage on a slender stem.

Long-petalled lewisia is grown for its colourful flowers and long flowering period. It is planted in rockeries or rock crevices and is commonly grown as a potted specimen. It is suitable for mountainous regions establishing in 2-3 years and is moderately long-lived.
