This perennial shrub has upright multiple greyish-white pubescent branches from the base with peeling bark and forms a compact rounded habit. It has small dark green lobed leaves and the rose-like white flowers are followed by feathery fruit during summer.

Fallugia paradoxais naturally found in south-west North America from California to Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma growing on dry rocky slopes and amongst open Pinyon-juniper woodlands in desert mountains at an elevation of 1000 to 2200 m (6600 ft).

It prefers a semi-shaded open position and tolerates hot and cold temperatures and grows in dry gravelly sandy soils that are limestone based to medium clay loams that are moderately fertile with a pH 6-8 and is drought and frost tolerant.

The Apache Plume is grown for its bushy habit and feathery plumes. It is planted in small arid gardens and rockeries as a specimen or in patio pots or planter boxes. Is suitable for coastal and dry inland regions establishing in 1-2 years and is moderately long-lived.
