This perennial succulent has a short stem with rosettes of fleshy leaves that form a clump. It has blue-grey green triangular shaped pointed leaves and the red to yellow tube-shaped flowers appear in a terminal cluster above the foliage during summer.

Dudleya cymosais naturally found in North America from northern California to Baja California growing in chaparral and northern or southern oak woodlands on rock outcrops at an altitude from 50m to 2700 m (8,000 ft). This species is highly variable and some of the sub-species are listed.
It prefers an open sunny position with some afternoon shade and grows in very well-drained moderately fertile, organic rich sandy-stony soils and will tolerate light clay soils and is frost and drought tolerant.
