This deciduous climber has hollow woody twinning stems that climbs into trees and shrubs forming a mounded appearance. It has silvery-green divided leaves and the large white saucer-shaped flowers appear in a cluster just above the foliage during mid-spring.

Clematis lasianthais naturally found in North America from north and central California to Baja California and extending east to the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It grows on hillsides or in chaparral and open woodlands from sea level to an altitude of 2000m (6000 ft).

It prefers a well-drained granite-based sandy to light clay loam that is moderately fertile with a pH of 5-8 and grows in an open sunny position and is drought and frost tolerant.
