This large deciduous tree has a greyish trunk with spreading branches that form a rounded a crown. It has dark green deeply lobed leaves that turn yellow or orange during autumn and the small yellow fragrant flowers appear in a cluster during mid-spring.

Acer macrophyllumis naturally found in western North America from Alaska to southern California primarily within 300 km (186 Miles) from the coast from sea level to an altitude of 2,135 m (7,000ft) growing in hardwood or conifer forests or in pure stands.
It prefers an open sunny position and it grows in most well-drained moderately fertile moist soils and is frost and drought tolerant but it prefers a cool moist environment.
The Bigleaf Maple is grown for its spreading habit and timber. It is planted in parks and large gardens as a specimen or shade tree and used in woodland settings. This vigorous tree has a trunk up to 1120 mm (48in) in diameter and in dense stands they are branch free for two thirds of their height and commonly found growing along water courses in valley floors.
