This semi-evergreen perennial has long thick roots with upright foliage that forms a clump. It has a light green rounded deeply lobed leaves and the white-pink saucer-shaped scented flowers appear in a small cluster above the foliage during early summer.

It prefers a semi-shaded to sunny position and grows in most well-drained moderately fertile dry or moist sandy to clay loams with a pH 6-7.5 and is frost, drought and deer tolerant.

The Big Root Cranesbill is grown for its flowers and its robust low growing habit. It is planted along the garden borders as a ground cover or used as a spill-over above retaining walls. It is suitable for coastal and low-mountain regions establishing in 2-3 years but may be short lived.
