This herbaceous bulbous perennial has upright foliage and forms a clump. It has semi-erect dark green linear leaves and the blue bell-shaped flowers appear in a terminal raceme above the foliage during late spring.

Scilla litardiereiis naturally found in Slovenia growing along the coast where it has become an endangered species and appears from sea level to an altitude of 1,500 m (4,921 ft).

It prefers a semi-shaded to open sunny position and grows in well drained fertile moist sandy to clay soil with a pH from 5.5-6.5 and is frost tolerant but drought tender.

Meadow Squil is grown for its flowers and its clumping habit. It is planted in small or cottage gardens along front borders or used in shaded rockeries. It is also planted in pots and tubs and is suitable for coastal regions. In large gardens it is mass planted for bedding displays or used in drifts in a woodland setting.
