This herbaceous perennial has a tap root and a branched erect stems that form a dense tufted habit. It has small dark green basal linear leaves and the daisy-like blue to white yellow centred flower appears above the foliage during a late spring.

Erigeron nanusis naturally found in North America from Idaho to Utah and Wyoming growing in dry sites on ridges and rocky slopes amongst sagebrush and in pine or fur forests from an altitude of 1900 to 2700 m (8,000 ft).

It prefers an open sunny position and it grows in well-drained moderately fertile rocky clay soils and is drought and frost tolerant.
