This short lived perennial has a small unbranched stem with radiating foliage and forms a clump. It gas hairy gre-green spoon-shaped leaves and the large yellow centred lavender blue daisy-like flowers appear singularly during early to midsummer.

Townsendia parryi is naturally found in north-west North America from British Columbia to Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming growing on grassy slopes or meadows in alpine or subalpine regions at an altitude from 1,500 m (4,921 ft) to 3,000 m (9,842 ft).
It prefers a sharply drained moderately fertile dry sandy-gravelly soil that is tending acidic, in a open to protected sunny position and is drought and frost tolerant.
Parry's Townsendia is grown for its bright flowers and its clumping growth habit. It is planted in small or alpine gardens along front borders or used in perennial gardens. It is also planted in rockeries or used in pots and tubs requiring little care and is suitable for inland and low-mountain regions, establishing in 1-2 years. ID 3582
