This bulbous perennial has upright narrow pointed grey green leaves and forms a clump. It produces pale yellow cup-shaped flowers with dark yellow or bronze markings high above the foliage on a slender stem from early to mid spring.

Tulipa bataliniiis naturally found in Uzbekistan growing on stony hillsides in an open sunny position. It prefers a very well-drained sandy-stony humus rich moist soils that are drier during summer with a pH 5.5-8 and is frost and mildly drought tolerant.
