This bulbous herbaceous perennial has erect glossy dark green strap like foliage and forms a clump. It produces nodding green tipped white bell-shaped flowers in a small cluster high above the foliage from mid to late spring and the plant dies back in summer.

Leucojum aestivumis naturally found from Ireland to the UK, central and eastern Europe, Northern Turkey, Caucasus and north-western Iran, growing in wet meadows or around marshes and in willow thickets.

It prefers a sunny to semi-shaded wind protected position and grows in moist but will drained organic rich sandy to clay loam that is neutral tending alkaline, and is drought tender but frost tolerant.

Summer Snowflake is grown for its clumping habit and its flowers. It is planted in a small or cottage gardens along a front borders or used in drifts in a woodland setting. It has also grown in semi-shaded bog gardens or in the understory of trees. It is suitable for coastal and inland regions and establishes in 2-3 years from division and is long-lived. Although this plant is known as Summer Snowflake the flowers appear during the spring and not in summer when the plant becomes dormant.
