This perennial herb has spreading slender greenish stems that form a prostrate habit. It has a small mid-green lobed leaves and the violet purplish trumpet-shaped flowers appear in a small cluster just above the foliage from late spring to early summer.

Aubrieta deltoideais naturally found from the Balkans to Sicily, Greece and extending to Asia Minor growing in alpine regions on scree or in rock crevices and in coniferous woodlands, from sea level to an altitude of 1,617 m (5,336 ft).

It prefers an open sunny position and grows in well-drained fertile moist soil that is slightly acidic to alkaline with a pH 6.5-7.5 and is drought tender but frost tolerant.

The Purple Rockcress is grown for its spreading habit and flowers. It is plant in alpine or cottage gardens along front borders or in rockeries as a spill-over and used in patio pots and planter boxes. It is suitable for coastal and low-mountain regions establishing in 1-2 years but may be short lived in warm dry climates. It is also planted in rock crevices or between stepping stones forming a compact ground cover. ID 3516
