This semi evergreen perennial has a slender spreading stems that form a tufted habit. It has dark green spoon-shaped toothed leaves and the pink or white funnel-shaped flowers appear in a raceme above the foliage from late spring to summer.

Erinus alpinusis naturally found from central to southern Europe and has naturalised in the British Isles growing in the Alps and the Pyrenees to an altitude of 2,500 m (8,202 ft).

It prefers an open to exposed sunny to semi-shaded position and grows in well-drained, moderately fertile sandy stony to clay loam or chalky soils and is pH adaptable. It is frost and slightly drought tolerant but dislikes hot afternoon sun.

The Fairy Foxglove is grown for its flowers and tufted habit. It is planted in small alpine gardens in rockeries or rock crevices and mass planted along front borders. it is also grown in pots and tubs and can be used in hanging baskets.

It is suitable coastal and low-mountain regions and establishes in 1-2 years but is short lived. Under ideal conditions this colourful perennial naturalise readily perpetuating colour in a cottage garden. ID 3510
