This tree has a short stout trunk with upright spreading purplish brown branches that form a rounded a crown. It has pale green lobed leaves that turn orange-scarlet in autumn and the white bell-shaped flowers appear in a dense cluster in spring.

The Yunnan Crabapple is grown for its flowers and autumn colour. It is planted in parks and gardens as a specimen or used along borders for screening and colour contrast. It is also planted along water courses in woodland settings and is suitable for low-mountain regions establishing in 3-5 years and is long-lived.
