This deciduous shrub has a solitary or multiple woody stems with many twiggy branches that form a dense round crown. It has dark green pointed oblong leaves and the pinkish lobed tube-shaped flowers appear in pairs during late spring followed by scarlet berries.

Lonicera tataricais naturally found from southern Russia to Central Asia growing in the woodland understory and along forest margins forming thickets at an elevation from 700 m (2,296 ft) to 1,150 m (3,772 ft). It has also naturalised in other parts of the world including North America where it commonly appears in disturbed soils and is regarded as an invasive weed.
It prefers a protected sunny to semi shaded position and grows in well drained organic rich moist sandy clay soils and is ph adaptable. It is frost and drought tolerant and is killed by fire.
The Tatarian Honeysuckle is grown for its attractive flowers and bushy habit. This planted along borders in parks and gardens as a low screen or is trimmed to form a hedge. It is also mass planted on embankments or used in the understory of a woodland setting.
It is suitable for coastal and low-mountain regions and establishes in 2-3 years and is moderately long lived. This shrub grows under most conditions and is suitable for difficult sites and is ideal for commercial landscapes requiring little maintenance. ID 3499
