This hairy shrub has multiple uprights slender stems with arching branches that form a compact rounded crown. It has mid green elliptical leaves and the narrow funnel-shaped crimson flowers appear in a small cluster from late spring to early summer.

Weigela floribundais naturally found in Japan from Honshu to Shikoku and grows on the coast and in the lower mountains amongst woodlands at an altitude from 150 m to 1700 m (5,100 ft).
It prefers an open sunny to partially shaded protected position and grows in most well-drained fertile moist soils that are tending acidic with a pH 5.6-7.5 and is frost and mildly drought tolerant.
