This herbaceous perennial shrub has a strong rhizomes and upright spreading woody stems that form a compact rounded habit. It has mid-green broad heart-shaped leaves and the bright yellow saucer-shaped flowers appear from late spring summer.

Saruma henryiis naturally found in China from Gansu to Guizhou, Hubei, Jiangxi, Shaanxi and Sichuan growing along water courses in a dense forest at an altitude from the 600 m (1968 ft) to 1000 m (3,280 ft).
It prefers a well drained organic rich moist soil that is tending acidic and grows in a semi-shaded to shaded wind protected position and is frost tolerant but drought tender.
This perennial shrub is grown for its flowers and is compact low habit. It is planted small gardens along shaded borders or used in cool moist rockeries as a specimen. It is also planted in large pots or tubs and is ideal for a cool climate garden. It is suitable for a low mountain or inland regions and establishes in 2-4 years. During the winter months it dies back completely that has rapid growth during early spring. ID 3493
