This herbaceous rhizomatous perennial has upright foliage that forms a quickly spreading clump. It has mid-green deeply lobed toothed leaves and the cup-shaped purplish to blue flowers appear in a cluster above the foliage from late spring to summer.

Geranium sylvaticumis naturally found from England to Spain and east to the Turkey and Siberia growing in damp woodlands or on rocky mountain ledges and in meadows or grasslands, commonly associated with the rivers or creeks from sea level to an altitude of 2,000 m (6,000 ft) or higher.
It prefers an open sunny to partially shaded position and grows in well-drained moderately fertile sandy-stony to light clay moist soils that a tending acidic with pH 5.6-7.9 and is frost and mildly drought tolerant.
Wood Cranesbill is grown for its vigorous spreading habit and flowers. It is planted long front borders in parks and gardens or used in rockeries. It is suitable for coastal and mountainous regions establishing in 2-3 years but may be short lived. This perennial is also grown in patio pots and planter boxes or on roof gardens.
