This herbaceous perennial has a short thick rhizome with many upright basal stems that form a rounded clump. It has large dark green diamond-shaped leaves and the pure white broad funnel-shaped flowers appear above the foliage from spring to summer.

It is suitable for mountainous regions and establishes from division in 2-3 years and is long-lived. This perennial is also naturalised in woodland settings and once established requires little care.
