This evergreen or deciduous shrub has a fibrous green-greyish branched stems that form a rounded bushy habit. It has glossy dark green elliptical leaves and the small purplish-white tube-shaped fragrant flowers appear in a cluster during late winter.

Daphne bholuais naturally found in the eastern Himalayas growing on the margins of oak and rhododendron forests at an altitude of 1000 to 3200 m (10,495 ft) and is deciduous at high altitudes.

It prefers a cool moist sunny to part shade protected position and grows in humus rich well-drained moist or dry, lime free sandy soils that are tending acidic with a pH 6-8. It is a frost, pollution and mildly drought tolerant but requires wind protection.

The Himalayan Daphne is a grown for its very fragrant flowers and bushy habit. It is planted in small or cottage gardens along pathways or in shrub borders and grows well in urban areas. It is suitable for inland and low-mountain regions establishing in 3-5 years and is moderately long-lived. This shrub is also grown in woodland settings tolerating shaded conditions and prefers to have the roots kept cool and moist. ID 3454

This attractive shrub dislikes root disturbance and the fibrous inner bark produces good-quality paper or rope.
