This variable deciduous tree has a grey green scaly trunk with spreading branches that form a broad rounded crown. It has dark green slightly serrated oblong leaves that turn brilliant red before falling and the crimson flowers appear in a cluster in spring.

Parrotia persicais a naturally found in Iran growing on the foothills of the Alborz Mountains along the southern Capsicum Sea from an altitude of 1 m to 1400 m (4593 ft), appearing in deciduous forest. It has a variable habit from sprawling spreading shrub with semi pendant branches to an upright tree.
It prefers a well-drained moist clay loam that is tending acidic with a pH from 6.0-6.5 in an open sunny to partially shaded position and is drought and frost tolerant.
The Persian Parrotia is grown for its spreading dense crown and attractive foliage. It is planted in parks and gardens as a lawn specimen or used as street tree. It is also planted along garden borders for screening and is suitable for coastal or low-mountain regions. It establishes in 3-5 years and is very tolerant to drought, heat, wind or cold, requiring little maintenance. ID 3441
