This shrub has upright slender branched reddish stems that form a compact rounded habit. It has dark green puckered oblong leaves and the small bright blue tube-shaped flowers appear in a cluster above the foliage during summer.

Salvia munziiis naturally found in North America growing from southern California to Baja California on the peninsula ranges and appearing in coastal sage-scrub and lower chaparral from sea level to an altitude of 800 m (2,400 ft).

It prefers an open sunny position and grows in most well drained moderately fertile soils and will respond to the addition of organic material. It is frosts and very drought tolerant.

Munz's Sage is grown for its blue flowers and dense bushy habit. It is planted in perennial borders or used in patio pots and planter boxes. It is suitable for coastal regions establishing in 1-2 years and is moderately long lived.
