This shrub has slender grey woody stems and branches that form a sprawling or climbing habit. It has dark green leathery oblong leaves and the 2-lipped pinkish white tube-shape flowers appear in a cluster in summer, followed by plump red fruit.

Lonicera hispidulais naturally found in western North America growing from British Columbia to California in mixed evergreen forests, Redwood forests, Douglas fir forests or open dry woodlands and cleared land from sea level to an altitude of 800m (2500 ft). It is also found along stream banks or on dry slopes and occasionally found in wetlands.
This shrub to vine grows in an open sunny to shaded position tolerating most well drained moderately fertile sandy-stony to light clay loams and is frosts and drought tolerant.
The Californian Honeysuckle is grown for its scrambling habit, flowers and attractive fruit. It is planted in gardens along borders or on embankments as a spill-over and can be used as an understory in woodland settings.
