This perennial is upright spreading foliage that forms a dense tufted habit with a tap root. It has dark green and fern-like divided leaves and the tiny greenish star-shaped flowers appear in a dense cluster high of the foliage during early spring.

Lomatium dasycarpumis naturally found in North America growing in Baja California and appearing in many plant communities, including chaparral, valley grasslands and woodlands from sea level to an altitude of 1,584 m (5,200 ft).

It prefers an open sunny position and grows in most well drained moderately fertile to poor sandy stony moist soils and is drought tolerant and is herbaceous in areas with frequent frost.

The Woolly-fruited Lomatium is grown for its foliage and flowers. It is planted in rockeries or along perennial borders and used in woodland settings. It is suitable for coastal and low-mountain regions establishing in 1-2 years but may be short lived. It is also suitable for patio pots and planter boxes but may be difficult to obtain requiring a specialist nursery. ID 3410
