This succulent perennial has a short stem with a terminal rosette of foliage and forms a small clump. It has fleshy chalky-white oblong leaves and the small pinkish star-shaped flowers appear in a cluster high above the foliage during summer.

It prefers an open sunny position but will tolerate summer shade and grows in poor to moderately fertile very well drained dry sandy-stony soils and is drought tolerant but frost tender.
