This decumbent shrub has smooth reddish stems with twiggy branches that form a compact mounded habit. It has leathery glossy dark green oval leaves and the small urn-shaped pinkish white flowers appear in a cluster over a long period from winter to spring.

Arctostaphylos edmundsii is naturally found in North America growing in the Big Sur coast line of California, appearing in coastal buffs on sandstone outcrops from sea level to an altitude of 100 m (300 ft).
It prefers an open to exposed sunny position and grows in moderately fertile well-drained sandy soils with a pH 5.5-7.5, (lime free)and issalt laden winds, heat and drought tolerant.
The Little Sur Manzanita is a grown for its spreading habit and flowers. It is planted in small gardens along front borders for use as a ground cover on embankments and in rockeries. It is suitable for coastal regions tolerating salt laden winds and establishes in 2-4 years and is moderately long lived. This prostrate shrub is also grown in roof gardens or used in patio pots and planter boxes, tolerating hot conditions. ID 3394
