Lepidium ostleri is naturally found in Western North America from Utah to California growing in the lower mountains amongst limestone outcrops or in rocky places with pinyon-juniper, sagebush and pinus communities and is regarded as endangered.
It prefers an open to expose sunny position and grows in well drained poor to moderately fertile sandy-stony soils that are neutral tending alkaline and is drought and frost tolerant.
Ostler's Peppergrass is grown for its low bushy habit and its flowers. It is planted in small gardens or rockeries as a specimen or grown in pots. It is suitable for coastal and low-mountain regions and establishes in 2-3 years. This plant is not commonly cultivated and may be difficult to obtain requiring a specialist nursery. ID 3373
