This small perennial has tufted basal foliage with woody roots that form a clump. It has erect mid-green heart-shaped foliage with scalloped margins and the whitish tube-shaped flowers appear in a cluster above the foliage during early summer.

Heuchera rubescensis naturally found in western North America from California to Oregon, Idaho, Colorado, Texas and northern Mexico growing on the Peninsula Ranges, Sierra Nevada and the Desert Mountains in dry rocky positions at an altitude from 1,500 m (4,921 ft) to 4,000 m (13,123 ft). It is commonly associated with Red Fir or sub-alpine forest and Pinyon-Juniper woodlands and occasionally found in wetland regions.

It prefers a semi-shaded to sunny protected position and grows in well-drained poor to moderately fertile moist to dry limestone base stony soils with a pH range of 5.0 to 7.0 and is frost and mildly drought tolerant.

The Pink Alumroot is grown for its clumping habit and its flowers. It is grown in small alpine gardens along the front borders or in shaded rockeries. It is also grown in patio pots and planter boxes or mass planted as ground cover. It is suitable to coastal and mountainous regions and establishes in 1-2 years but may be short lived. This perennial is also used in woodland settings or around a water feature. It is easily cultivated and tolerates most soils and there are several variations available. ID 3371
