This small spreading shrub has upright woody branches that form an open habit. It has grey green needle-like leaves and the bright red fringed tube-shape flowers appear towards the end of the branches from spring to early summer.

It is commonly found around salt lakes or in sandplains growing in very well drained moderately fertile white, yellow or red sandy soils.
