This perennial herb has spreading pubescent slender stems that form a sprawling habit. It has glossy green leaves and the large purple saucer-shaped flowers appear along the stems from spring to summer.

Scaevola callipterais naturally found in south-western Western Australia from Perth to Albany growing on the coast and inland on wooded ridges or on a sandplains. It prefers a very well drained, sandy gravelly soil in an open sunny position and is drought tolerant but frost tender.

Royal Robe is grown on for its spreading habit and flowers. It is planted in garden beds as a ground cover or used in rockeries as a spill-over. It is also planted in containers and is suitable for coastal or inland regions establishing in one season.
