Banksia sceptrumis naturally found in Western Australia growing on the coast and slightly inland between Hamelin Pool and Geraldton in a shrubland or coastal dunes and is not threatened in its native habitat.

It prefers a very well drained moderately fertile deep yellow or pale red sandy soil in an open sunny position and is drought tolerant but frost tender and is killed by fire then regenerating from seed.

The Sceptre Banksia is grown for its upright bushy habit and large flower heads. It is planted in coastal gardens along borders for screening and for attracting native birds. It is suitable for coastal and inland regions establishing in 3-4 years and is long lived. The flowers are commonly used in floral arrangements and the plant prefers a mediterranean climate with hot dry summers. ID 3300
