This small tree has a crooked smooth brown trunk and spreading branches that form an open rounded crown. It has dull green oval leaves and the small saucer-shaped white flowers appear in a cluster in late spring, followed by red edible fruit.

Syzygium aqueumis naturally found from southern India to eastern Malaysia and extending to northern Australia growing in lowland forests along the coast and inland, up to 1200 m (3,600 ft).

It prefers a well-drained, moderately fertile heavy loamy with reliable moisture in an open sunny to semi shaded wind protected position and is frost and drought tender.

The Water Apple is grown for its habit and fruit. It is planted in tropical gardens or botanical collections as a specimen or grown commercially in orchards. It is suitable for coastal regions and establishes in 3-7 years and is long lived. The edible fruit is harvested in some regions such as Indonesia.
