Hebe treadwelliiis naturally found in New Zealand growing in grasslands at the headwaters of the Doubtful River in the south island up to an altitude up to 1500 m (4200ft).

It prefers a well drained moderately fertile stony soil in an open sunny position and tolerates frosts and windy conditions but slightly drought tender.

This hebe is grown for its compact low habit and unusual foliage. It is planted in small gardens as a specimen or along borders and in rockeries. It may also be mass planted as a ground cover and establishes in 3-4 years. It is suitable for coastal or low-mountain regions and is used in patio pots or planter boxes and on roof gardens tolerating exposed conditions.ID 3252
