This upright whipcord hebe has a bright intricate branching with green rounded stems that form a compact habit. It has tiny triangular shaped grey-green leaves and produces small lilac tube-shape flowers in a cluster during summer.

Hebe cupressoidesis naturally found in New Zealand growing along the main divide of the south island from Marlborough to the Otato Lakes to an altitude of 600 to 1370 m (3,836 ft) and appearing on rocky river flats and in sub-alpine scrubland.

It prefers a well drained moist humus rich sandy-stony soil that is tending alkaline in a sunny to semi shaded open position and is frosts and drought tolerant.

This Hebe is grown for its compact rounded habit and small flowers. It is planted in large rockeries or along borders and on embankments. It is also suitable for commercial sites establishing in 3-4 years and is moderately long lived.
