This shrub has upright finely pubescent branched stems that form a bushy habit. It has leathery glossy dark green elliptical leaves and the tiny tube-shaped white to pale lilac flowers appear in a cluster at the end of the branches during early winter.

Hebe bollonsiiis naturally found on the small islands east of the northern Island of New Zealand (Poor Knights Island, Mokohinua Island, Hen and Chicken Islands) growing in coastal shrubland or forests.

It prefers an open sunny to semi shaded protected or exposed position in most well drained moderately fertile moist soils tolerating wind, drought, salt spray and frost.

This Hebe is grown for its upright bushy habit and its flowers. It is planted along borders and may be trim to form a hedge or is used in patio pots or planter boxes. It is suitable for coastal regions tolerating salt spray and establishes in 2-3 years. It is also planted in commercial sites as a low wind break or on embankments. ID 3250
