This tree has a solitary or multiple smooth greyish trunks with the ascending branches that form an opened rounded crown. The divided leaves have mid green oblong toothed leaflets and the white flowers appear in a cluster during late spring.

Sorbus aucupariais naturally found from Europe to western Asia and extending to Siberia, growing in woodlands and forests up to an altitude of 1000 m (3280 ft). It has naturalised in North America where it's been cultivated for many years.
It prefers a deep well drained moist organic rich fertile soil that is acidic tending neutral and grows in poorly in chalky or compacted soils. It prefers an open sunny position and is frost tolerant but drought and high temperature tender.
Mountain Ash is grown for its attractive fruit and rounded habit. It is planted in parks and large gardens along borders or as a lawn specimen. It is suitable for cool mountain regions and establishes in 3 to 5 years and is long lived. The reddish-brown heartwood is used for wood turning or wood carvings.
