This short lived perennial has jointed short stems and forms a lowrounded clump. It has dark to greyish green linear leaves and the pale pink star-shaped flowers have lacerated margins and appear above the foliage during summer.

Dianthus alpinusis naturally found in the south-east European Alps growing in woodlands on grassy slopes amongst rocks. It prefers a sharply drained organic rich moist soil that is neutral to acidic in an open sunny position and is drought and frost tolerant.
Alpine Pink is grown for its low mound habit and flowers. It is planted in a raised garden beds or rockeries that are sharply drained and is used in pots or window boxes.
